Jens Juul Holst receives the Fernström award

The Fernström award has existed since 1978, and it is one of the biggest medical acknowledgements a researcher can achieve. Jens Juul Holst is the first Dane in over 15 years to receive the award.

Jens Juul Holst received the award based on his research in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and his discovery of GLP-1 hormone. He was in fact the first scientist to show that GLP-1 hormone affects insulin secretion which he discovered back in 1987.

Jens Juul Holst is the leader of a research group that studies obesity and type 2 diabetes, particularly in view of the investigation of hormonal disorders and treatment options based on hormones .
