Association between neuromedin U gene variants and overweight and obesity

Neuromedin U (NMU) is an anorexic neuropeptide expressed in the hypothalamus. Mice lacking the NmU gene are hyperphagic and obese, whereas mice overexpressing Nmu are hypophagic and lean.
