After seven years as Senior Vice President in the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Professor and former Head of Department Niels-Henrik von Holstein-Rathlou returns to the Department of Biomedical Sciences on 1 August 2022.
After nine years as head of department at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Niels-Henrik decided to accept a position as chief of the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s initiative within Biomedicin & Health Sciences in August 2015. After seven years in the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Niels-Henrik has decided to resign his position in the foundation and return to the department as of 1 August 2022. Here he will continue this professorship in kidney physiology at the University of Copenhagen which he first started in 1994.
“I welcome Niels-Henrik back to the department. His return will help strengthen the department’s kidney research, and Niels-Henrik will get an important role in contributing to teaching and exams. We also hope to benefit from Niels-Henrik’s great knowledge of funding applications,” says Head of Department Cathrine Ørskov.
Niels-Henrik’s research interests are cardiovascular and kidney physiology, regulation of micro circulation, gab junction function in the hearth and vessels, and mathematical modeling of physiological systems.
“I look forward to returning to the Department of Biomedical Sciences. After many years in leadership positions, both at UCPH and in the Novo Nordisk Foundation, I have long wanted to return to the university to do research and to teach. I have several projects which I have long wanted to pursue, and I look forward to continuing the collaboration with my many good colleagues at the Department of Biomedical Sciences,” says Niels-Henrik von Holstein-Rathlou.
