Fabian Fingers academic focus is to study processes that have the potential to extend the health span where people live healthier lives for longer - with either less disease, or disease-free.

At BMI Fabian Finger is establishing an independent research group to study how mitochondrial lipid composition, particularly cardiolipin, regulates mitonuclear communication and metabolic adaptation in health and disease.

His current work focuses on skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, integrating established collaborations within BMI while expanding translational ambitions. By investigating how cardiolipin-driven changes in mitochondria affect nuclear gene expression across cells and tissues, his research aims to uncover novel intervention strategies to extend health span and improve outcomes in metabolic and age-related diseases.

His group is a part of the BMI Division for Translational Metabolism.

Fabian Finger on his new position at BMI:

BMI is an inspiring place to establish my research group, combining scientific excellence with a strong culture of collaboration and openness. It offers the ideal environment to build on established partnerships, develop new interdisciplinary ideas, and grow as an independent researcher, with the space and support needed to turn fundamental discoveries into future impact.”

Fabian Finger is PhD in Genetics from University of Cologne and has recently received postdoctoral training with Assoc. Prof. Zach Gerhart-Hines at CBMR.
