Jannick Prentø appointed Associate Professor at Department of Biomedical Sciences
As of 1 October 2025, Jannick Prentø will be a part of Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMI) as a temporary Associate Professor. Jannick was previously affiliated with Department of Immunology and Microbiology (ISIM) and is now joining BMI after receiving an Ascending Investigator Grant.

Jannick Prentø’s research focuses on structural virology as well as structural studies of paracellular junctions, both of which hold important translational potential for next-generation vaccine development and drug targeting.
Recently Jannick has published a landmark paper in Nature on the structure of the complete glycoprotein complex of hepatitis C virus, The hepatitis C virus envelope protein complex is a dimer of heterodimers.
Jannick Prentø has collaborated with researchers at the BMI for several years and will now be a part of the department as group leader.
At BMI, Jannick’s research will center on structural studies of hepaci-, pegi-, and pestiviruses, as well as the development of collaborations that aim to improve our understanding of paracellular interfaces across organs such as the brain, gut, and heart.
Jannick’s group will provide key input through advanced techniques including nanodisc scaffolding, single-particle cryo-EM, and molecular dynamics simulations.
In addition to his research, Jannick will be part of BMI's teaching in pharmacology.
Jannick on his appointment at BMI:
“I am excited to join the Department of Biomedical Sciences, which is a hub for structural studies of membrane proteins, including the most challenging cases where AlphaFold has not provided sufficient solutions.
It is also home to experts across a wide range of human tissues and organs. I look forward to collaborations that will help establish the structural foundation needed to interpret both clinical and laboratory data.”
Jannick Prentø has a Master of Science in Engineering, Biotechnology from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and a PhD in molecular virology.
We warmly welcome Jannick and his group to the department and look forward to following their research.
