Tor Biering-Sørensen receives funding for at new COVID-19 study

Associate professor Tor Biering-Sørensen has received DKK 1.8 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation for a study that will investigate if heart and lung ultrasound and help classify COVID-19 patients according to risk at the time of hospitalization.

The study includes patients hospitalized at most of the hospitals in the Capital Region of Denmark with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis and the first results are expected to be ready within a month.

Tor Biering- Sørensen is an associate professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences and at the same time part of the Section of Heart diseases at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital and Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital. Tor and his research group will now start investigation if fast and inexpensive ultrasound of lungs and heart can predict which patients with confirmed COVID-19 are in risk of getting severe complications.

The aim is to publish the results of the acute part of the study as fast as possible as it can hopefully help reduce the consequences of COVID-19 in the healthcare system.
