Professor Michael Davies has been awarded major research grant
Six years ago, the Novo Nordisk Foundation awarded a Laureate Research Grant of DKK 40 million to Michael Davies. A new major grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation ensures that he can continue his research for the next seven years.
Professor Michael Davies became a part of the Department of Biomedical Sciences when he six years ago was awarded his first Laureate Research Grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Now the grant is about to end, but a new major Laureate Research Grant of DKK 35 million means that Michael Davies can continue his research at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, where he investigates how modifying proteins benefits or harms the body.
An evaluation before the Foundation awarded the new grant concluded that Michael Davies’ research and presence have greatly benefitted Denmark’s research community, including being valuable to younger researchers.
“A grant of this size gives a lot of freedom to conduct large-scale long-term research projects instead of having to apply for new grants every year. In addition, Denmark has a very strong research community within protein chemistry and also many large companies and small start-ups in this field. Last but not least, the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research at the University of Copenhagen provides both the technology and the researchers to conduct world-class research,” says Michael Davies.
Michael Davies was among the first researchers to receive a Laureate Research Grant from the Foundation. The grants aim to attract outstanding international researchers to Denmark. The arrival of top researchers will strengthen research in Denmark in both the short and long term and contribute to making Denmark an international hub for research in biomedicine and biotechnology.
Since 2012, the Foundation has awarded Laureate Research Grants totalling DKK 655 million.
