Professor Andreas Kjær receives grant from the Lundbeck Foundation

Professor Andreas Kjær is one of six professors who receive a total of DKK 232 million from the Lundbeck Foundation for brain research.

The goal of the Lundbeck Foundation's professor program is to support the development of strong brain research environments among internationally recognized top researchers. The six professors are expected to contribute to cutting-edge research, but it is equally important that they help develop and are committed mentors of the next generation of skilled researchers.

Andreas Kjær who is a professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences and at the same time affiliated with Rigshospitalet, receives a total of DKK 40 million for his research. Andreas Kjær will develop molecules for the identification and treatment of glioblastoma, which is a very serious form of brain cancer, where patients, after diagnosis, have an average survival of just over one year. He will, among other things, develop a method that can help better locate the cancer cells in the brain so that all cancer tissue can be identified and removed by surgery.

In addition, Andreas Kjær will develop a new local internal radiation treatment with isotopes, where the patient will be injected with radioactive isotopes bound to a substance that only attaches itself to the cancer cells. The goal is a more precise irradiation of the cancer cells and thus increased efficiency and fewer side effects.
