Michal Marzec receives grant from EFSD

Associate Professor Michal Marzec has recently received a new grant from the European Foundation of the Study of Diabetes. The grant is within their EFSD/Lilly European Diabetes Research Programme.

Michal Marzec, who is an associate professor at BMI, has recently received a grant of 100,000 Euro over 18 months from the European Foundation of the Study of Diabetes. The grant is part of the EFSD/Lilly European Research Programme.

Michal Marzec’s project is entitled “Proinsulin processing hotspot: a structural key to diabetes pathogenesis?”, and the focus is on early steps of proinsulin folding in endoplasmic reticulum in order to identify therapeutic targets and folding processes that in the near future could be modulated to increase insulin output while decreasing pancreatic beta cells stress in both types of diabetes.

Michal Marzec is part of the research theme Inflammation, Metabolism and Oxidation.
