New grant

Assistant Professor Kaituo Wang has received the Lundbeck Foundation’s new Experiment Grant of almost DKK 2 million. The Lundbeck Foundation’s Experiment Grant is awarded to the most daring and ambitious projects.

The Lundbeck Foundation have just awarded their new LF Experiment Grants for the first time. One of the recipients is Assistant Professor at BMI Kaituo Wang, who has been awarded nearly DKK 2 million for the project ”Semi-Organized Fibril-like self-Assembly scaffold (SOFAs) for CryoEM”, with the ambitious goal to create a tool to facilitate structure determination of other small membrane proteins.

Kaituo Wang is part of the research group Membrane Protein Structural Biology Group, which is led by Associate Professor Pontus Gourdon. He is located at the 9th floor of the Maersk Tower, and is a regular user of CFIM, where he is also working with CryoEM.

LF Experiment is a new grant programme from the Lundbeck Foundation, which focuses on the most daring and ambitious research projects, and is meant to give researchers the opportunity to test their craziest ideas.

The Lundbeck Foundation received 293 applications of more than half a billion Danish kroner. 31 projects received grants, which is a success rate of 11%. At BMI, we had sent nine application, and thereby have a success rate of 12%, which is very close to the average.
