Jens Juul Holst receives prestigious Advanced Grant

Professor Jens Juul Holst is one of three Danish researchers who have received an Advanced Grant from “Det Europæiske Forskningsråd”. In total, the three Danish researchers receive about DKK 50 million.

Jens Juul Holst has received the prestigious grant for the project "Bypass without Surgery" which includes continuing studies of the mechanism of weight loss and the curative effect on type 2 diabetes seen after a gastric bypass surgery.

"In particular, we focus on identifying factors that can be used in a future non-surgical treatment of obesity and diabetes," says Jens and continues:

"The main hypothesis is that especially the excessive secretion of appetite and metabolism-regulating hormones from the gastrointestinal tract are responsible for the changes following surgery. Therefore, the project aims at clarifying the mechanisms that control the excessive secretion in order to be able to use this knowledge to stimulate the secretion of the body's own hormones, " Jens concludes.

The Advanced Grants are awarded to researchers with an impressive research career on their CV. This is the third time, the grants are awarded under Horizon 2020, and 277 researchers from around the world receive a total of 647 million euros for excellence research.
